Gear setup — handheld majority, gimbal for establishing only
Handheld is the default rig for everything reactive — artist sets, crowd energy, backstage candids, brand/detail cutaways. These moments are unpredictable, so speed beats smoothness.
Gimbal is reserved for three planned, repeatable camera moves — the shots where a smooth, pre-visualized path actually adds value instead of costing you a reaction shot:
- 10:30–11:15 — empty-venue walk-through (the "venue opening" postcard sequence)
- 15:00–15:25 — VIP / Belvedere reveal walk
- 18:35–18:45 — Goldfish stage + crowd establishing push-in, right after the walk-on
Rig tip: balance the gimbal once during load-in (10:00–10:15) for the a7R IV + Sigma 24-70mm. Since the lens doesn't change all day, that single calibration holds for all three windows — no re-balancing later. Use a quick-release plate on a sling strap so the handheld-to-gimbal swap takes seconds, and keep the gimbal stowed on your back (not in a bag) during every handheld block so it's ready without a dig.

Rule one: it never competes with a Must-tier shot above. Every phone pickup here lives in a gap that already exists in the schedule — arrival, the buffer block, changeover holds, pack-down. If a real moment and a vlog moment collide, the real moment wins, always.
